Boss Level is directed by Joe Carnahan and stars Frank Grillo as Roy a former Seal Team officer who is caught in a Groundhog Day style time loop where he is constantly killed trying to reach the head of a corporation played by Mel Gibson and where his wife played by Naomi Watts works and who also may hold the key to helping him end his endless death day.
Boss Level is a lot of fun and I had a big smile on my face watching this film on the big screen all to myself, Grillo makes for a likeable anti hero and the ways he goes back trying to fight back against his fate are bloody and violent and often very fun to watch, there’s car chases/helicopters/sword fights/gun fights proper action and shit and under Carnahan’s direction its never boring to watch.
There was also a nice reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark in the film as well, as for the other performances their okay if nothing special, Watts does her best but isn’t really all that memorable, Gibson is a lot of fun but we’ve seen him do this role many times before, Michelle Yeoh makes the most of her limited screen time while Ken Jeong is good fun as the owner of a rundown Sushi Bar.
And so that was Boss Level and its good fun which I enjoyed watching, 3 out of 5.
