Film Review - Dream Horse (2021)

Dream Horse stars Toni Collette as Jan, a small town supermarket worker and bartender who is wanting more out of her life so she decides to breed a racehorse, most people in her small town think she’s crazy but with the help of a former horse breeder (Damian Lewis) she manages to win over some other members of her town and they go off to the races.

Dream Horse is very much an old fashioned working class people wanting more out of life inspiration story but it was one that worked for me primarily due to the cast led by Collette and Lewis, the two have always been good actors Collette in particular though I suspect many Australians will always think of her as terrible Muriel Heslop but here they bring a lot of charm and emotion to what could’ve been a very sappy and sentimental story.

The film also makes a lot of the horse racing sequences in the movie and like the boxing matches in a Rocky film or the big game in any sports film they do make you sit up and notice the movie more than you might normally do so in your cinema seat.

And so that was Dream Horse, not too much to say but it’s one of those movies where I don’t have a lot to say, it delivers what it promises on the box, a feel good sports movie that won me over, 3 out of 5.
