Money Monster is directed by Jodie Foster and stars George Clooney as Lee Gates the host of the financial TV Show Money Monster and his Producer is played by Julia Roberts but during the production of the latest episode the studio is taken hostage by Kyle (Jack O'Connell) who is unhappy over bad financial advice that cost him all his money.
Money Monster is a good thriller that is first off very well directed by Foster and she keeps a very tight rein on the proceedings never allowing the pace and tension to get too out of hand as well as never allowing the film to go for too long, I must also mention her Editor here Matt Chesse who also did a great job on the film.
The film also has some very good performances first of all by Clooney himself and it sure is great to see him sink his teeth into a great role again after the duds of the Monuments Men and Tomorrowland which didn't make it easy to be a fan of his, Roberts is also very good as his right hand and both of them play off each other very nicely and I also quite liked Caitriona Balfe as Diane Lester who is the chief communications officer of the company that saw Kyle's money be lost.
But apart from all that good work (very good even) all in all I thought that this was a classic case of a film being really enjoyable when I was watching it but then 10 minutes later my view of it just came crashing down to Earth as really just being another film that I went and saw and reviewed and then just went "Eh" and look this film is not bad at all but it's really just another film I saw this year.
And so that was Money Monster and in a way for me it encapsulates my movie going year so far its not good, not bad, not great but not horrible and its worth seeing for Foster's direction and the central performances, 2 out of 5.
